Rates & Insurance

At Inner Expansions, we believe everyone deserves access to quality mental health care. To help make therapy more accessible, we partner with a select number of insurance companies. We know insurance can sometimes feel confusing, so we’re here to walk you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

Insurance

All of our therapists can bill Aetna and CenCal (Medi-Cal for residents of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties) directly for services as Inner Expansions is an "in-network" provider. We are also able to bill some, but not all, Blue Shield plans, as "in-network" providers.

In addition, we regularly bill Carelon (as an out-of-network provider for PG&E employees) and Health Plans Inc. (for KinderCare employees).

For all other insurance plans, we are considered an "out-of-network" provider. We are happy to provide you with a "superbill" that you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement. Please note that submitting a claim or superbill does not guarantee payment, and you are responsible for any fees not covered by your plan.

Your session fee is due at the start of each appointment. Many insurance plans also have a deductible that must be met before coverage begins.

Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please check your coverage carefully by calling your insurance company and asking the following questions:

  • Do I have mental health insurance benefits with an out-of-network provider?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • What is my per session co-pay?
  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
  • Is approval or referrals required from my primary care physician?

Payment Policy

Inner Expansions requires a major credit card to be kept on file for all clients. Virtual sessions are billed directly to the card on file. For in-person sessions, we also accept cash or check payments.

Payment for services is due at the beginning of each session. Our private pay rates are as follows:

  • Associate Therapists: $145 per session
  • Licensed Therapists: $155 per session
  • Licensed Therapists with Advanced Specialization: $175 per session

We encourage open conversations about payment. Please speak with your therapist if you have questions about their rate category or concerns about fees. We also offer limited reduced-fee options to help make therapy accessible, and we are committed to transparency so you can feel confident and supported in your care.

Cancellation Policy

At Inner Expansions, we value communication and consistency, as they are an important part of the therapeutic process. We understand that unexpected situations can arise, and we encourage you to let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule.

If you do not attend your scheduled appointment and have not notified your therapist at least 24 hours in advance, a $100 fee will be charged. This policy allows us to honor our time together and offer openings to other clients who may be waiting for care.

We deeply appreciate your understanding and commitment to keeping therapy a consistent part of your healing journey.

Schedule Online

Current clients may schedule a therapy appointment online through the "Client Portal" button at the top of the page. The SimplePractice Client App is the easiest way to manage appointment schedules, complete paperwork, pay invoices and securely message your therapist.

Good Faith Estimate

If you are not using insurance and you are paying out-of-pocket, you will receive a Good Faith Estimate upon request or before your first session. The estimate is not a contract and does not obligate you to receive services, but it helps ensure transparency and clarity around fees.

Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining the expected cost of your care. This estimate outlines the anticipated charges for therapy services, so you know what to expect before starting treatment.

Fees are also clearly laid in the consent to treatment forms. Please ask your therapist or a member of the admin team if you have any questions or concerns.
