Information for Parents & Caregivers
We understand that seeking therapy for your child is an important decision, and we are honored to be part of your family's support system. Our primary focus is always your child's emotional well-being, growth, and mental health.
Consent for Treatment
California law establishes specific requirements regarding consent for a minor's mental health treatment. Before services begin, we will review your family's circumstances to ensure that the appropriate consent has been obtained.
If there are any custody orders, parenting plans, or other court documents related to legal custody or medical decision-making, we ask that you provide copies before your child's first appointment. These documents help us understand who has the legal authority to consent to treatment and ensure we are providing services in accordance with California law.
Working with Both Parents
Whenever it is safe, appropriate, and in the child's best interest, we believe children benefit from having the support of both parents or caregivers in the therapeutic process. We strive to maintain a neutral, respectful relationship with each parent and do not exclude a parent from participating in treatment when they have legal rights to be involved.
The level of each parent's participation will depend on the child's clinical needs, the family's circumstances, legal requirements, and the therapist's clinical judgment.
Our Role
Our role is to support your child's emotional health and development—not to evaluate parenting or determine custody arrangements. We do not make custody recommendations, provide opinions regarding parenting time, or participate in custody disputes.
While we may provide treatment summaries or copies of records when legally appropriate and properly authorized, our therapists do not conduct custody evaluations and are generally not available to make recommendations for court proceedings. If your family is involved in ongoing litigation, a court may recommend or appoint a forensic evaluator or another neutral professional to address custody-related questions.
Our commitment is to provide a safe, supportive, and developmentally appropriate therapeutic environment where your child can build coping skills, strengthen relationships, and thrive.
